A new law took effect in October 2022 in Connecticut that creates specific requirements for adequate dog sheltering during certain adverse and outdoor weather conditions. While, in our opinion, the fines are certainly not harsh enough for the blatant cruelty that failure to comply suggests, the strengthened law does offer animal control officers more guidelines to intervene if necessary. The laws in every state are different and worth checking out. Regardless of your state’s law, if you see an improperly sheltered animal, please report the situation to your local ACO.
