After our two “tenants” spent a few weeks settling in, another of their brethren from the Hartford cat colony also needed new housing. Being a black cat and hence having less chance of being adopted, we accepted her rental application last Sunday.
Yesterday all three made the trip to Colchester Vet Hospital for their inaugural visit. All are females, are roughly 5, 8-10 and 18 months old, respectively, and are doing fine, albeit still skittish from all the strangeness and activity.
They are now forever at home and in their own room for a week or so as the dogs and other cats get used to their smells from behind the closed bedroom door. This ain’t our first rodeo.
We have a tradition of naming all the cats we rescue with French names, hence: the all-black kitten is “Minuit” (French for midnight), the black and white cat is “Coco” after Coco Chanel’s distinctive use of black and white, and the tabby is “Cherie”, the French term for darling.
And life goes on, hopefully a little better for these three, who will no longer eat out of the same bowl on the streets.
