This “viewing” stadium at Miami Seaquarium has held a 7,000 pound Orca whale for the past fifty years so people can pay to stare at her and watch her do “tricks”.
A 7,000 pound animal held for fifty years in a puddle, whose former home was Puget Sound and the pacific ocean.
Not a scintilla of logic, humanity or decency can justify this – only man’s unlimited capacity for ignorance, denial and ego.
Closer to home, Mystic (CT) Aquarium recently imprisoned five Beluga whales in a pool for the rest of their lives. (note: one of them died shortly after her traumatic and unnecessary transport from Canada)
And humans are the superior species because they have the ability to think and reason? Unless doing so would require them to apply their moral standards against suffering to others who also suffer?
The hypocrisy frankly astounds me and is only surpassed by man’s psychological conditioning to ignore and deny the horrific conditions and harms it bestows on animals.
On August 28th, join me and others who find animal captivity abhorrent and grotesquely dishonest for a protest rally at Mystic Aquarium.
These creatures have done nothing wrong and have no voice but ours.
The Center’s mission to establish fundamental rights for companion animals through high impact litigation efforts is buoyed by our commitment through activism to the rights of all animals. Join us on August 28th if you can.
