In November, we introduced how “Dog Behavior Science” is being brought to court to save lives. Thom expanded on this topic in December. While the cases using dog behavior press on, we are seeing more instances of the recognition of what dogs’ behaviors tell us. Nathan Winograd, an attorney and executive director of the No Kill Advocacy Center wrote bluntly in January that we are “Failing Dogs” and “killing a dog based solely on reported history, is a gross betrayal.” His interesting article is posted below. At a recent visit to the vet, we found the adorable poster pictured above: “Doggie Language starring Boogie the Boston Terrier” by author Lili Chin whose books and drawings have been used by Fear Free Pets, RSPCA, the International Association of Animal Behavior Consultants (IAABC), International Cat Care and more. Of course, every dog is different and the drawings do not take the place of a trained behaviorist. However, they do demonstrate the wide range of emotions and behaviors that dogs can exhibit. Ms. Chin’s website linked below is generously filled with free educational resources (including the above poster) that may be shared with credit to the creator.
