ROLLING ADMISSION FOR LAW CLERK INTERNS
The Center For Animal Litigation provides internships and subsequent part-time employment to law students interested in applying property, constitutional, criminal and trust jurisprudence through novel legal theories and creative litigation strategies to defend and expand the legal protections and fundamental rights of companion animals and their owners before administrative agencies, state and federal courts.
Our work includes defending dogs facing death at the hands of governments, custody disputes, landlord/tenant issues, service animals, rescue and adoption contracts, veterinary malpractice and other harm to animal claims. We bring related appeals and federal §1983 actions when an animal owner’s rights are violated.
Clerks are valued team members expected to become immersed in our work, paid a stipend, given formal credit on briefs and receive academic credit where available. They are engaged with clients, perform legal research, draft pleadings and briefs, and participate in discovery, motion practice, hearings, trials, post-trial briefing and appeals.
Clerks typically work 15-20 hours per week or more when able, with much of this accomplished remotely. They work directly with our principal attorney in the vastly expanding field of animal law and also assist with the firm’s estate, small corporate and general civil litigation practice.
Interested candidates typically have an interest and commitment to the rights of animals and should send a cover letter, resume and short writing sample to officeadmin@tpagelaw.com. We actively recruit people of color, women, people with disabilities and LGBTQ and gender non-conforming people. No phone calls please.
