On December 20, 2022, President Joe Biden signed into law the “Big Cat Public Safety Act” (H.R. 263) which prohibits the private possession of big cats. Furthermore, exhibitors (such as circuses and zoos) can no longer allow direct contact with cubs, which should put an end to the insane practice of cub breeding for the sole purpose of fee generation which inevitably led to aged-out cubs being sold or killed when their usefulness ended. The Big Cat Public Safety Act amends the “Lacey Acts Amendments of 1981” – a perfect example of the exorbitant time it takes to right the wrongs humans inflict on animals.
