When governments decide to kill dogs involved in bite incidents (thousands upon thousands nationally every year), they immediately make the unsupported conclusion the dog is “vicious” (and of course always will be), and then claim it is being done for “public safety”. In other words, they kill dogs because they believe a bite history is a surefire predictor of a dog’s behavior, and killing it now will protect the public in the future.
However, the science of dog behavior tells us dogs are instinctual animals and accordingly, they react to stimuli, or from being provoked, versus a dog using reasoning to decide what behavior to engage in. Dogs can’t and don’t reason like humans, but can only react to what they are presented with in the moment.
It is simply impossible to predict what stimuli or provocation a dog may encounter in the future, and therefore impossible to know whether a dog is more likely than not to bite in the future. It will always depend on whether the dog is provoked into biting.
We are bringing the accepted science and study of dog behavior into the courtroom to save these dogs from otherwise speculative decisions they are “vicious” and therefore must be killed.
Currently, we are defending two innocent dogs facing death by using a certified dog behavior consultant in our trial strategies. This is the future of dangerous dog proceedings, but can only be accomplished with your financial support to help us force governments to truly understand dogs before deciding to kill them.
Please consider helping us give these dogs their day in court. They certainly deserve it.
