EMPATHY, COMPASSION & THE GOLDEN RULE
These principles have always had celebrated status in our sense of humanity. They are often considered the underpinning of our collective morality, applicable to everyone who suffers and can feel pain, regardless of race, ethnicity, gender…and species as well.
After all, animals feel pain, certainly suffer, and nothing in our moral construct excludes them from being included in these beliefs.
Yesterday I trekked up to Adams, MA to join a rally with my peeps from Western Mass Animal Rights Advocates for the World Day To End Speciesism, which is discrimination based on an individual’s species.
Bonding with likeminded people who believe animals are entitled to the dignity, morality and fundamental rights humans claim for themselves is always uplifting and inspiring.
May we all someday think outside the boxes of convenience, tradition, complacency, superiority and yes, denial, as they pertain to the lives of all others.
