The police picked up Marc in 2016 with his dog Jamie Lee by his side (as Jamie always was), took Marc to the hospital and immediately gave Jamie Lee away to a friend of theirs. You couldn’t believe it unless it was true.
After months of being completely stonewalled by animal control and the police, Marc found Jamie Lee, and we were forced, but also successful, in bringing a lawsuit to get Jamie home. Two years later, Marc inherited a little bit of money, and he didn’t buy a new car, move to a better house or take a long awaited vacation. Instead, he immediately sent us some funds to bring a federal lawsuit against the police officers, not seeking anything other than hopefully stopping the police from doing this ever again to another dog and their owner.
I was in court this week battling against the officers’ attempts to have this all forgotten, that they really didn’t do anything wrong, the lawsuit should be dismissed, etc., etc. Marc passed away last year, but never stopped talking about what we were trying to do. A wonderful relative of Marc’s knew how much this meant to him, and she is now supporting our efforts to see this through.
This is animal people standing up for what is right, not for themselves, but for the animals to always have their dedicated caregivers who provide a life these creatures deserve, just like anyone else deserves.
The world needs more people like Marc, and we are beyond honored to represent his legacy.
This is what we do, and I’m guessing you all know why. Peace.
