The Cecilia Moot:
Thom was honored in April to serve as one of five judges in the UK Centre for Animal Law’s (“A-Law”) law student appellate argument contests known as the Cecilia Moot. On April 3, he listened to UK law students argue for the release of two hypothetical dogs that were under kill orders for their “crimes” of acting like dogs and/or being of a “dangerous breed”.
Despite having zero experience with UK law, Thom was selected as a judge based on his passion and work with the same subjects here in this country. This goes to show how so few attorneys are willing to dedicate their lives to defending and expanding the rights of these animals. While the laws concerning dog bite incidents differ in several respects, the rights of animals and how these matters should be resolved are fundamentally the same in the minds of animal rights lawyers across country borders.
