I spend my time on behalf of animals, mostly companion animals and mostly as a lawyer focusing on animal rights litigation. I also attend all sorts of animal protests, in part to commune with those who are in tune with my beliefs. I enjoy caring for animals who faced death or were lost and abandoned, and who have so much to give. I am grateful our paths crossed. I am fortunate to have the chance to defend these animals before the law, and in so doing, to try and expand the fundamental rights of all of them. While the pay is certainly no bargain, it is a dream job for me.
These creatures remind my soul of what’s truly important: empathy, respect for all and the golden rule. I am no less lucky to have found them, than they are to have found me. If this strikes a chord, please don’t thank me for what i do, but rather join us in the struggle to have the law fully recognize their inherent rights @ www.thecfal.org.
Photo: My first pitbull rescue at 11:00 pm on a hot humid evening in the summer of 2009. A pregnant starving mom was locked in a third floor porch of an abandoned Waterbury 3-family house. After three months of tender rehab, a lucky family took her home.
